My Bio

I was born a poor white child. I grew up to be a poor white man.

Random Thoughts and Wild Rants

  1. Speaking of Un-American....

Check out this YouTube video. It starts cute, but then turns stupid or scary, depending on how crazy you think the people in it are, or how sinister you think Obama's announced desire to create a Brownshirt-like brigade that pledges loyalty first and foremost to the greatness that is Obama is.

  2. Enough with the articles trying to paint the people in Gaza as victims

I'm getting very tired of wire stories and CNN reports about the the poor widdle Palestinians who are being picked on by those dastardly evil Jews.

The Palestinians in the Gaza Strip voted Hamas into power in an overwhelming margin. According to several soruces (including the Hamas-loving CNN and AFP), 78% of registered voters took part in the 2004 election that gave power to Hamas and 60% of them voted for Hamas.

Now, this does mean that 40% of the Palestians ARE...
  3. At the Movies: 2008 in Reviews

Here are the last "Best of 2008" and "Worst of 2008" lists you're likely to see. (I'm starting the new year with a look back, because most of my reviews are about old movies anyway.)

Click on the titles to read the full reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.

THE TEN BEST MOVIES OF 2008 (well, at least the best that I saw)

  4. Seattle True Independent Film Festival accepting submissions!

The 5th Annual SEATTLE TRUE INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL (STIFF), a ten-day celebration of off-beat, genuinely independent films in Seattle, Washington, will be held June 1-10, 2009. The festival is currently accepting short films and full-length features for review by its selection committee. The late deadline to submit films for consideration is January 15, 2009. 5. DARK TALES & DISTURBING LEGENDS

    Welcome back, MSD!

Certainly, "Ashington Manor" was a tribute to "Castles Forlorn," but I like to think I fixed some of the weaknesses present in that design. And, naturally, the Tarokka deck was a totally Old School Throwback the origins of which are completely obvious.

Basically, I figured this was the last time I'd have a chance to do a Ravenloft adventure, so I went "back to the beginning." (I didn't realize the line was going to die...
  6. Midnite Movies and Other Double Feature DVDs Reviewed!

    12/20/08 15:17:15 | 0 Comments

The "Wolf Man Double Feature" disc presents a pair of very interesting films from the formative years of horror, both of which offer up reasons to refuse an inviationt to visit a friend in London during a full moon.

The most interesting of the pair is "Werewolf of London" from 1935, as it demonstrates how much of "traditional werewolf lore" wasn't really established until the 1941 hit movie "The Wolf Man" came along.

    For more...

How can you tell a movie critic/reviewer who's a clueless moron that's faking it? He claims that Universal's "The Mummy" from 1932 is where the shambling, throat-crushing cinematic mummy got its start. The truth is, it wasn't until 1940 that what we know consider the Mummy Standard got its start.

The first typical two typical mummy movies have been reissued by Universal on a single DVD. While "The Mummy" (starring Boris Karloff) is by far...
  8. Parents Johnny 'Taliban' Walker ask for his release... again.

    From the AP...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The parents of American-born Taliban fighter John Walker Lindh are asking President George W. Bush to set their son free before Bush leaves office next month. Lindh was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in 2002 to serving in the Taliban army, which violated U.S. economic sanctions against Afghanistan at that time. At...
  9. The latest non-controversy controversy surrounding "Valkyrie"

    12/16/08 19:07:39 | 0 Comments

As the puff pieces promoting the Tom Cruise WW2 vehicle "Valkyrie" become more and more prevelent, we're starting to see the first reviews... and a few columns featuring quotes from negative reviews. A couple such columns have been penned by Roger Friedman of Fox News, who, at the earliest moment possible, did a round-up of negative commentary about "Valkyrie" in this column. That...

A couple such columns have been penned by Roger Friedman of Fox News, who, at the earliest moment possible, did a round-up of negative commentary about "Valkyrie" in this column. That column made sure he wasn't invited to the private New York press screening of...
